Resources for all students

San Antonio ISD provides a wide variety of resources designed to strengthen and enrich your child’s educational experience. From innovative academic programs and special-interest activities to social-emotional supports and the teams that care for our physical spaces, each contributes in an essential way to the success of all our students.

1:1 Technology

San Antonio ISD accelerated its strategic plan from a three-year strategy to a three-week goal to provide 1:1 technology across the district. A website providing digital resources for all grade levels organized by subject areas and digital hotspots is available to all students through the #ConnectCampaign.

Advanced Academics (GT, AP)

San Antonio ISD’s Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Department aims to transform potential in youth into outstanding achievement in adulthood. Offering 29 courses, the Advanced Placement Program enables students to pursue college-level studies with the opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school.

Disability Services/504/Dyslexia

Supports students with disabilities in gaining college and career readiness and independent living skills through a rigorous, nurturing learning environment, high-quality instruction, and support services that enable all students to reach their full potential. Contact the Disability Services Department to set up a free evaluation if you have concerns with your child’s physical development, emotional development, or speech.

Dual Language, ESL, & Migrant

Students can take advantage of a PK-12 dual language curriculum, as well as programs for native Spanish speakers that ease the transition to English. The aim is to produce bilingual, biliterate graduates with the socio-cultural awareness to lead their local and global communities.

The Early Childhood Education Department provides an acclaimed, high-quality educational program to eligible 3 and 4 year olds through its state- and district-funded pre-kindergarten and federally funded Head Start programs.

Fine Arts

At the Elementary level, the primary focus is music, with art having a steadily increasing role in the curriculum. At the Secondary level, students can take classes in all fine arts subjects while participating in performances, shows, and competitions in a wide variety of programs, including band, choir, orchestra, mariachi, art, theatre, and dance.

Choice Schools & Magnet Programs

Enjoy specialized academic programming designed to best fit the individual interests of students! Choose from Montessori, dual language, single gender, early college, career-focused pathways, and more! Open to all students in grades PK-12, regardless of academic ability or where they live. Free transportation is available, and an application is required.

Neighborhood Schools

Families living within San Antonio ISD boundaries have neighborhood K-12th grade campuses assigned or zoned to their home address. Families living outside a neighborhood school’s attendance zone, including families living outside San Antonio ISD boundaries, can request a transfer into the school.

Athletics

Students who participate in athletics learn important values and skills like leadership, goal setting, teamwork, and integrity. Varsity sports are football, basketball, track, cross country, volleyball, baseball, softball, soccer, wrestling, tennis, golf, swimming/diving, and student trainer/manager. Additionally, schools offer other sports and sports-related clubs through grade 8.

Extended Day Program

Your child has the opportunity to participate in a safe, supportive after-school environment that provides continued learning in core subjects and helps with homework. Participating students can also develop their social awareness and physical skills through iPlay! activities. Services are delivered through a partnership between San Antonio ISD and the City of San Antonio.

Extracurricular Activities

San Antonio ISD schools offer a variety of after-school opportunities for students interested in sports, scholastics, the arts, science, and other special interests. Options vary from school to school, including clubs focused on academics, music, dance, drama, fine arts, robotics, languages, journalism, school spirit, peer assistance, leadership, and more!

Bond Renovations

In Spring 2021, over 600 district employees relocated to a new Central Office building on W. Quincy St. near the Fox Tech/CAST Tech/ALA campus, at no cost to taxpayers. The new, more energy-efficient facility saves the district $1 million each year. Previously, Central Office employees worked in separate locations across the district, in buildings that are each about 50 years old. Bond 2020 and Bond 2016 renovations at nearly 50 campuses include new classrooms and upgrades to building infrastructure, energy efficiency, technology, and security.

Child Nutrition Services

The Child Nutrition Services Department enhances children’s learning and health by nourishing their bodies and minds with nutritious meals. More than 91,000 student meals are served each day at over 90 district sites and curbside pickup locations.

Facilities

San Antonio ISD’s Facilities Services maintain our schools, classrooms, and administrative buildings to provide safe, healthy learning and working environments. This important work includes custodial, grounds, clerical, construction, technical and trade groups. The new Energy & Sustainability Program helps maintain comfortable, safe surroundings and improve energy efficiency.

Transportation

The San Antonio ISD Transportation Department’s top priority is delivering your child to school safely, on time, and in a frame of mind ready to learn. The innovative Safe Stop and Z-Pass programs give you peace of mind about your child’s safety. Find your San Antonio ISD bus stop here. Bilingual, special needs, and Choice Schools & Magnet Programs routes are available. All district buses, or “Rolling Readers,” have Wi-Fi and drivers who engage students in learning opportunities. SAISD met the need of the moment by deploying buses to serve meals to school-aged children during winter outages and as a remote-learning COVID-19 response.
